Columbia Ethnomusicology students win a record number of major grants for dissertation field research!

Graduate students in the Columbia Ethnomusicology PhD program have won numerous competitive dissertation research fellowships this year, including two International Dissertation Research Fellowships from the Social Science Research Council (our 5th and 6th SSRC awards since 2002), Fulbright-IIE and Fulbright-Hays fellowships (our 6th and 7th since 2002), a Wenner-Gren Foundation Dissertation Improvement Fellowship (our second since 2002), an IREX Eastern European Studies Fellowship, two full-year and one summer FLAS (Foreign Language and Area Studies) fellowships, a National Science Foundation Dissertation Improvement Grant, a grant from the PEO Foundation, a Columbia University Traveling Fellowship, and a Canadian Embassy Grant. We congratulate all the winners (Daphne Carr, Melissa Gonzalez, Farzaneh Hemmasi, Lauren Ninoshvili, Matt Sakakeeny, Ryan Skinner, and Anna Stirr), and express our gratitude to the granting agencies for their support.
